Distortion and Gradients
Concepts: Sharpening, histograms, levels, brighness, contrast, hue, saturation, selecting, cutting and pasting, feather, distortion, warp, scale and gradients.
Assignment
Create an expressive self-portrait (alien-like) with distorted features. Pay attention to the following details:
- The face should fill 1/2 to 2/3 of the frame.
- The top of he head should be near the top of the frame.
- The photo should be sharp.
- Distort facial features to create an expressive composition.
- Colorize skin tones as described in the tutorial.
- There should be no painting on this photo. All work will be the result of distortion and feathered colorization.
- Create a gradient background behind your figure.
- See if you can use distortion on the clothing or torso to heighten the effect. Do not paint on this portion of the photo either.
